The West Ranch girls volleyball team did something no other team in the Foothill League has done.

The Wildcats beat Valencia in four games and moved into a first place tie in the Foothill League standings.

Valencia entered the match with an undefeated record in league play. West Ranch was tied for second place with Hart.

West Ranch’s Alexis Clewis led her team with 25 kills and setter Carly Carapella had 44 assists.

The Saugus girls volleyball team won its second match in a row, a three-game sweep over Golden Valley. Ashley Guthrie had 24 assists, nine kills and three blocks for the Centurions, the reigning Foothill League champs.

In high school football, Trinity bounced back in a big way. The Knights beat Milken, 51-0, in the Heritage League opener for both teams. It was Trinity’s first win in the Heritage League.

Dakota Prochnow scored two touchdowns, one on a 70-yard punt return, and threw a touchdown pass to Ryan Brooks. Spencer Klehn also scored two touchdowns.

After a Trinity touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Milken decided to stop the game.

In the Foothill League, Hart, the No. 1 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division, plays Golden Valley at Canyon High tonight. Hart has won five games in a row, including their Foothill League opener last week.

Golden Valley is 0-6 and has not won a league game.

Canyon, the No. 9 team in the Northern Division, plays Saugus at College of the Canyons. Listen to the game between the Cowboys and Centurions tonight on AM-1220 KHTS. Pregame starts at 7:15 p.m.

In the NFL, the Tennessee Titans beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 26-23. Rob Bironas hit a 40-yard field goal, his fourth of the game, as time expired to give the Titans their third win of the season.

In preseason NBA, the Heat beat the Clippers, 94-80, in a game played in Beijing, China. LeBron James had 20 points for the reigning NBA champs. Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 19 points.
